Now that AI Has Somehow Matched Our Intelligence, Will It Subsequently Outsmart Us or Even Destroy Us?
Nearly two decades ago, I became very well cognizant of the concept of artificial intelligence (AI) via AI paradigms that I had to analyze as part of my master's thesis in Software Engineering (i.e., CxBR and CxGs.) While I did NOT initially desire to get more heavily involved (i.e., I wanted to get involved in various other competing interests instead of giving my entire life to one field), and opted to remain mostly at the quality assurance, and preliminary design levels to complement my executive role, lately, with the launch of LorinsAI.com, I have embarked on a renewed interest in AI. In fact, the breadth and depth of possibilities are nearly unthinkable and require that we question to what extent AI will adversely affect or enough destroy us. As always, I want to contribute ideas of AI agent engineering, ethics and even public policy.
Please peruse the following insightful video for more insights:
Inevitably, the advent of AI has brought about a series of changes and perspectives. For instance, most of our toll booths no longer have toll workers. On the other hand, we are starting to have driverless cars pick up passengers (e.g., Uber's Waymo.) Many people have started to depend on AI engines like ChatGPT and Claude and some use AI tools daily if not hourly. Many of us have become addicted to such tools who are often learning more about our human behavior than we are learning about the algorithms behind the inference engines (i.e., artificial brain power) that guide them. But sooner or later they will inevitably outsmart us.
Here is another video to gain further insights:
It must be noted that many AI systems are learning from various inputs including human behavior and are becoming more and more intelligence and as that continues such systems may start outsmarting us or predicting our behavior. But wait, when you us online portals either by typing information in or by using your voice, many other systems receive data concerning your interests and behavior, which they use to present you with overwhelming value propositions (OVPs), that will really captivate your interest. This is only a rudimentary version of the beginning of behavior catalyzation that I am using as an example. Imagine future AI systems buying a care online or selling your car or house online without your permission or entire government or corporate systems being completely remodeled or outsmarted by highly intelligent AI viruses.
Comparison Between the Industrial Revolution & AI Revolution
It has been said that NECESSITY is the mother of ALL INVENTIONS. In High School, I learned about that the biggest catalyst behind the industrial revolution was the abolition of slavery, which induced thousands of slaves to cease being chattel property of White owners who used their brains and bodies as the machinery of their sugar and cotton production during a time when those two made many colonizers super prosperous (e.g., the U.S., and France.) With the slaves' manpower now longer available, a replacement of that manpower via the invention of new machines came about. Likewise, modernly, with the AI revolution, many people are not obtaining traditional jobs or are able to earn a lot more money through non-traditional ways. The latter is forcing many entities to look into AI and cheap-labor sources in other countries. However, as AI gets trained more and more and master our behaviors, many of our professionals will no longer be needed, just like chattel slavery was essentially replaced with the advent the industry revolution. In a nutshell, many subsets of professions like the law and medicine can disappear overnight and many jobs that appear to be necessities for our current industries may end up becoming nearly obsolete if not obsolete altogether.
Some can easily argue that employees have always been viewed as pseudo-slaves even modernly anyway when their earnings are compared to those of the entities for those they work. In fact, until today, American jurisprudence still has contractual agreements that still refer to EMPLOYER-EMPLOYEE relationships as MASTER-SLAVE ones. The latter further substantiates our analogy of the replacement of slaves with machines after the industrial revolution and the eventual replacement of employees with smarter AI agents after the end of the AI revolution.
Will Most of The World then become AI Consumers and Welfare Recepients (Like Many Parts of Europe) as AI Agents Dominate Us and Make Seemingly Smarter Decisions than Humans Used to Make?
What Will Ensue When Super Intelligent AI Systems Start Outsmarting Us or Erring or Acting Immorally or Induced to Act Maliciously in a Hyper-Intelligent Manners?
Imagine having an AI Agent paying off your mortgage balance with your entire retirement balance with an implied approval from you or sending out dismissal letters to all your employees or entering into a contractual agreement within a pre-approved discretionary range ALL WHILE YOU SLEEP because it has been self-modified to do so by morphed super-intelligence.
Things that make one got hmm...
I'd love to know of any thoughts and ideas fueled by your fear, creativity or innovation.
